Week 3 Reflection

Week three was the final week in the online Instructional Media course with Lock Haven University. On the last week the only new assignment we were responsible for was completing a final Reflection project based on chapter 11 in our textbook. The rest of the week was designated for constructing our team and personal websites. In order to do so, we have to post all of our work we did as individuals and as a team onto the appropriate web pages. Over all, I am very please with how my team's final product turned out. We put a great deal of hard work into all of our work and in then end our final website turned out wonderfully.

This class has been very fasted paced, considering it was only three weeks long. It required a lot of hard work and determination to complete all the assignments in such a short amount of time, but it was definitely able to be done. I really enjoyed creating and completing all of the technology based projects during this course and I know that they will all help me as a future teacher. As our society is improving and changing all the time, the skills I learned in this course will greatly benefit me while working with technology for both my own personal use and implementing it into teaching lessons what I become a teacher and have my own classroom.

No matter how stressful this class became at times throughout the last three weeks, I feel that all the new skills I have discovered and learned while completing this course will definitely help me in the future as a teacher.

Week 2 Reflection

This week we were required to form a group and collaborate with other students in our class. I was very optimistic on how this week would play out, considering I had no experience working in a group through the use of technology. I found this week to be more challenging than the last in the sense that as a whole the entire week brought much more confusion. Although I feel that is may be less confusing if we had more time to put into our projects and figure out how everything should be before we submit it.I feel that everyone has a different idea of the expectations and that is what contributes to most of the confusion. I am sure that if we were taking this call face-to-face, we would all be more confident turning in our final products and receive faster feedback with our questions. I have found that because everyone is completing this course on their own time, it makes it more difficult to complete the group work and communicate efficiently because everyone is online at different time. This makes it hard to get your questions answered quickly in order to continue working on your projects.

All in all, this week has been very stressful and there is still more that has to be completed with only one week left of class. Due to the fact that this is the first time offering this particular course online, there is bound to be flaws. After the course ends, I am sure many improvements will be made and there will be less confusion for other students who chose to take this course online.

Even though I feel I have struggled through this second week on the course, I have still gained many useful skills through exploring and implementing the different ways I can use technology in the classroom. I have learned many new skills that I am sure will come in handing when I am preparing lessons in the future for my own students.

I am looking forward to this last week of class and feel I still have a lot of work to finish to catch up for week 2. I am still very curious to see what each groups completed websites will turn out to be when finished. I am sure when this last week is over, the whole class will be very proud of the work they completed and the job they have done!

Week 1 Reflection

The first week of class was a little bit confusing and stressful to say the least. This is my third online class and it has been the most demanding so far. Even though this course has been more time consuming that I had anticipated, it is still very manageable if you work at it hard enough. That is to be expected of a course that is only three weeks long. I do like the fact that the entire course is constructing projects, because they show more than an exam. After making it through the first week of the course, I feel that the remaining two weeks will run more smoothly considering I know how to properly manage my time for the assignments. I am very interested to see how week two is going to play out because we will be working in groups without every meeting face-2-face. That is something I never thought I would have to do.

I have really enjoyed working through the various assignment in this course. They have all taught me a lot about the uses of technology and how I will one day be able to implement these in my own classroom. Even though I was fairly familiar with most of the programs we were expected to use to complete our assignments, there were some that possessed some difficulty. Out of all of the assignments, I feel the bookfold in Microsoft Word was the most difficult for me considering I have never heard of one or knew it was possible to make one using that program.

One positive thing about this course being a web based course is that you have to explore the possibilities yourself. I feel that exploring these technologies with limited instruction will make us remember what we are learning better because we are teaching ourselves to use it.

I know that as a Special Education teacher I will have many uses for a great deal of these technologies in my classroom. The use of Microsoft Excel will help me keep grading records to monitor the individual progress of my students, Microsoft PowerPoint will allow me to create visual, organized lessons that will greatly benefit my students, and various resource websites that will be of assistance to me as a teacher.

This week have been very challenging, but also very fun and rewarding. I look forward to participating in some cooperative learning in the week to come with my fellow online classmates!

Who am I?

Hello! My name is Hallie Root. I am from the small town of Millerton, Pennsylvania where I grew up on a dairy farm. This fall I will be entering my junior year at Lock Haven to continue earning my degree in Special and Elementary Education. From my previous experiences working with children in a variety of situations, I have discovered a great joy it brings to my life. I love being around and interacting with kids everyday; therefore, I feel that teaching would be a perfect job for me.
For the most part I feel very comfortable with technology although I may not have a lot of experience with some of the activities we may encounter with this online class. I am able to use all the general functions of a computer and programs such as Microsoft Office, Internet, and many more. On the other hand, this is my first experience blogging and am very excited about learning how to do so. I have a feeling this class is going to be very beneficial to me because it will broaden my knowledge of skills using the computer.
Instructional Media will be my third class I have taken online. Personally, I benefit more from the face-to-face classroom setting, but during the summer I am too far away from Lock Haven to commute and attend classes. I enjoy being able to take courses online over the summer because I am still able to obtain a full-time job and still be able to complete this course when it works for me.
